Wave Under the Midnight Sun
Photographs of the waves were taken every two seconds from a fixed viewpoint at the same coastal location. In total, 416 images were recorded. Keeping their original order, the images were grouped into sets of four, resulting in 104 works. Each work contains a short span of continuous time, while the time between the works remains connected, forming an unbroken sequence across the entire series.
By weaving and reorganizing consecutive moments, different layers of time are brought together within a single image. Within the stillness of the photograph, layers of time rise into depth, accumulating and leaving traces. The flat surface does not present a single, fixed scene, but instead holds overlapping moments that resist settling into a stable form, compressed into the two-dimensional plane of the photograph. Rather than extracting fragments of time, this work attempts to momentarily gather the multiple temporalities that pass through and coexist within this space.
同一の海岸、同一の構図のもと、2秒間隔で連続して写真を撮影した。記録された416枚の連続したイメージは、その連続性を保ったまま4枚ずつを一単位として、全104件の作品へと再構成されている。一つの作品の内部には連続した時間が含まれ、同時に、作品と作品のあいだの時間もまた切断されることなく繋がっている。
連続する時間の断片を交織し再編することで、異なる時間軸は一つのイメージの中に圧縮される。写真という静止した媒体の内部に、流れ続ける時間の層が立ち上がり、形として確定しきらない関係の場を平面へと落とし込まれていく。それは時間の断片を採取する行為ではなく、通過し続けいくこの空間に共存する複数の時間軸を一瞬掬い上げる試みである。
